Injury blow for Brentford player on international duty – Withdrawn from NT squad

Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard has been forced to withdraw from the Denmark squad for October’s international break.

The Danish football association took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to confirm the 24-year-old’s injury blow.

There’s no information provided about the nature of the setback, but the Brentford player will miss the UEFA Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland.

The Danish FA have confirmed Anderlecht’s Anders Dreyer will replace the Bees midfielder in the squad.

Damsgaard has been a regular for Thomas Frank’s side this season, scoring a goal and registering two assists from nine matches in all competitions. The player’s game time at Brentford was limited to less than 1,000 minutes last season, while he has clocked in 614 minutes this season.

Denmark interim manager Lars Knudsen was pleased that Damsgaard has overcome a difficult phase at the Premier League side.

“It is fantastic to see that Mikkel is really making progress at the moment and delivering some good performances,” he said, as quoted by Tipsbladet on Monday.

“He’s been through a tough time with some injuries, and now finally seems to be hitting some of the things we’ve seen potential for him to hit for a long time. So, it’s just really positive.”

“What I can only ascertain right now is that Mikkel is moving forward, and he’s in a really good place now. And we are very pleased to see that Mikkel is where he is.”

Brentford will take on Manchester United after the international break. Frank and his side would be hoping Damsgaard is fit in time for the trip to Old Trafford on October 19th.
