Chelsea winning run ends as Nottingham Forest grab draw at Stamford Bridge

Exclusive: Wolves dressing room stance on Gary O’Neil revealed

Gary O’Neil has the support of both the Wolves dressing room and hierarchy, sources have told Football Insider.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Midlands club, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League table.

Wolves have made a winless start to the campaign, which continued last Saturday (5 October) against Brentford.

However, it was the manner of the 5-3 loss that did set alarm bells ringing within the club about O’Neil’s future.

The squad remains behind the 41-year-old manager despite the heavy loss, and the club remains confident that he’s the right man to move them up the table.

Wolves will not make any kneejerk reactions regarding his long-term future, with O’Neil not expected to be sacked in the immediate future.

Sources tell Football Insider that O’Neil has “credit in the bank” due to what he’s already achieved at the football club.

With the squad still behind him the club is hopeful that results will begin to turn around after the international break.

The Wolves hierarchy are also aware it has been a difficult period due to the club selling Max Kilman and Pedro Neto in the summer transfer window.

No team have conceded more goals than Wolves so far this season, with the team boasting a -12 goal difference.

O’Neil’s side will face Man City on their return to action after the international break on 20 October.

In other news, Wolves hit major hurdle after new financial reveal – Stefan Borson.

Wolves are expected to make their decision on the future of Gary O’Neil soon after his team’s horrific start to the season.

This is according to Mick Brown, who previously worked as a senior scout for the likes of Man United, Aston Villa and West Ham and remains very well connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the former Bournemouth boss is fighting for his job at Molineux.

Wolves are winless in their first even Premier League games and have picked up just one point from a draw against Nottingham Forest in August.

Since then, O’Neil’s side have lost five consecutive games including a 3-2 loss to Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and sit at the bottom of the league.

They have now shipped 13 goals in their last four games, including five to Brentford last time out, and the board are now weighing up their options.

Football Insider revealed on 28 September that the Wolves hierarchy will back the manager to oversee a change of fortunes after his poor start to the season.
