“Sad, annoying moment for my family” – Crystal Palace player speaks about summer blow and support network
Daniel Muñoz has featured regularly for Crystal Palace since arriving at the club from KRC Genk in January.
The Colombia international has made 24 appearances for the Eagles, of which eight are from this season. His performances for Crystal Palace have helped him retain his place in the national team.
La Tricolor lost the Copa América final to Argentina in the summer. The Crystal Palace man was sent off in the semi-final win over Urugay and was suspended for the final.
ESPN‘s SportCenter have been speaking to the 28-year-old and asked him to share his views on missing the Copa América final. When responding to that, Muñoz said he had support to overcome this disappointment.
“It was a sad, annoying moment for my family, nobody wanted to play that game more than me, to win, to play in a final with my national team, against the world champions,” he said.
“Those were very tense days, I didn’t want to do anything, because every player’s dream is to play in a final.
“I had the support of my family, which was the most important thing, of the boys, of the coaching staff, that made those days a little better. The whole national team was with me. You learn from your mistakes.”
The right-back’s goal with the national team is to secure a place for the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, things haven’t gone well at Crystal Palace this season. They are 18th in the table, with three points from six matches. The South American has urged his teammates to step up, to help Oliver Glasner’s side get out of this difficult situation.
“It hasn’t been an easy start. These are football situations, for things, reasons, we have not had that bit of luck in this start, but knowing the good group we have the situation will improve,” Muñoz explained.
“We must double our efforts, we must prepare better. It’s good that these things happen at the beginning and not at the end. I trust my colleagues. We are going to meet again with that team that ended up being the protagonist last year.”
Crystal Palace will host Liverpool later today and the tie will see him come up against his compatriot, Luis Díaz.
On facing the Reds forward, he said: “We have an important match coming up, Liverpool. Everyone knows about the friendship, the brotherhood I have with Luis, and I like it, always playing against the best.”
“I consider him one of the best in the world. He challenges me to do much better. I like to mark him, I like to face him.”
