NFL weather for 49ers vs. Cardinals to include unseasonable heat wave

So much for autumnal weather for the 49ers and Cardinals game in Week

The NFL weather usually cools in Northern California during October, but that won’t be the case for Week 5’s contest between the 49ers and Cardinals.

Heat waves and football are usually associated with training camp, preseason games and the occasional first couple of weeks of a regular season.

Not necessarily October, especially in Northern California.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, for those hot-weather lovers), summerlike heat has opted to hang around the state well beyond the typical dissipation that occurs in September.

And it’ll have an impact during the San Francisco 49ers’ Week 5 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Heck, the weather even impacted the Niners’ practices leading up to this NFC West showdown:

For those not familiar with weather in NorCal this time of year, particularly in the Bay Area, temperatures can stay hot into September but usually subside late in the month, giving way to cooler and more autumnal conditions in the first week of October.

Instead, a notable heat wave gripped the northern part of the state, including very rare 100-degree temperatures in Santa Clara where San Francisco holds its practices.

While not quite as extreme as the week’s record-highs, Sunday’s contest between the 49ers and Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium will be a warm affair.

The current NFL weather forecast calls for a kickoff temperature of 87 degrees with mostly clear skies and northwesterly winds of eight miles per hour. The mercury is also expected to creep cose to 90 degrees as the game progresses, too.

This can be exceptionally uncomfortable for fans sitting in the sunlight on the eastern concourses of Levi’s Stadium, while the on-field surface temperatures are typically even hotter.

As such, expect plenty of players from both teams needing hydration treatment to avoid cramps throughout the game.
