Browns DE Alex Wright having season-ending triceps surgery

Browns lose defender to season-ending injury

Cleveland placed DE Alex Wright on the injured reserve list Thursday with a triceps injury.

The Cleveland Browns placed defensive end Alex Wright on the season-ending injured reserve list on Thursday.

Wright broke the news on Instagram that he has been dealing with a triceps injury since the joint practices against the Minnesota Vikings in August. The injury got progressively worse and Wright underwent surgery on Thursday in Dallas, which brought his 2024 season to a close.

“After the Jacksonville game, I got an MRI on my tricep because I was dealing with pain from a strain in the same spot during joint practice vs the Vikings. Somehow it became (a) Freak accident because I didn’t even use my right arm on the play. So after finding out about it I still battled through the pain and all.

“Fast forward I got my last MRI checkup and it has progressed to worse from a partial tear. So now surgery is taking place which leads me to missing the rest of the season… anybody who knows me knows I love football to death, but 91 is going to be alright for sure. Everything happens for a reason, it’s in God’s plan. 91′s coming back with mean (expletive) Vengeance I promise you I STAMP THAT!”

Wright was a third-round selection by the Browns in the 2022 NFL Draft. A rotational player at defensive end, he has played in 37 career games, making six starts, and posted 61 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and six sacks.

The highlight of this season came in Week 2 when Wright sacked quarterback Trevor Lawrence for a safety late in the fourth quarter of Cleveland’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cleveland has yet to make a move to fill Wright’s roster spot. In his absence, it is likely that defensive end Isaiah McGuire will see more action in the rotation that features starters Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith, along with Ogbo Okoronkwo.

The Cleveland Browns and their fans are disappointed with their season so far. With a season that started with such high expectations, starting 1-3 is extremely deflating.

There is still a long way to go this season, but the Browns need to start winning some games if they want to make the playoffs. This is going to be more difficult now, as they are entering a more difficult part of their season.

The good news is that the Browns defense is playing above average a majority of the game. The bad news is that they have yet to put a complete game together.
