Wrexham AFC: George Evans news could be key to seeing off MK Dons

Wrexham dealt hefty injury blow with 29-year-old facing ‘lengthy’ spell on the sidelines, Phil Parkinson confirms

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has said George Evans has sustained a ‘serious’ injury and is facing a ‘lengthy’ spell on the sidelines.

Wrexham will have to make do without the Mancunian for the coming months. He is out of action after suffering ankle ligament damage against Stevenage earlier this week as they lost 1-0.

Evans, 29, joined the Welsh side in September last year and penned a two-year deal at the Racecourse Ground. He helped them gain promotion from League Two along with Stockport County, Mansfield Town and Crawley Town.

Parkinson has said, as per a report by The Leader: “George’s injury looks a serious one which is a shame for him. He had a bit of a disjointed start to the season and just got himself back in good shape ready to compete for his place.

“It was an innocuous incident, the lad has almost fallen on him and we really feel for George. It looks like he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.”

Wrexham injury blow

Evans’ injury is a big blow for Wrexham. He can play in midfield or defence which makes him a useful player to have in the squad.

He also injects experience into his ranks so his absence is a setback.

The Manchester City academy graduate saw his deal extended by the Red Dragons this past summer which shows he is highly-rated.

Evans played once for the first-team during his time at the Etihad Stadium as a youngster and was loaned out to Crewe Alexandra, Scunthorpe United and Walsall to get some experience under his belt in the Football League.

City sold him to Reading in 2016 and he went on to have further spells at Derby County and Millwall before linking up with Wrexham.

Evans’ focus now will be on getting back to full fitness.

In the meantime, the Red Dragons will want to return to winning ways. They are back in action this Saturday against Northampton Town.

Parkinson’s men are 2nd in the table behind Birmingham City and are five points behind the Blues having played a game more.
