Goals have changed for Rangers third baseman Josh Jung. Now he aims to 'beat the clock'

Josh Jung done for the season

Third baseman Josh Jung will be shut down for the final week of 2024

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung will be placed on the injured list due to ongoing soreness in his surgically repaired hand, per reports. With just six games to go, this will end his 2024 season.

It has been a disappointing year for Jung, who was hit on the hand by a pitch in the fourth game of the year. The resulting fracture was initially expected to cost Jung 4-6 weeks, though after surgery it was announced it would be more like 10-12 weeks. Jung started a rehab assignment in mid-June but was shut down after four games due to ongoing soreness. He finally returned to the majors at the end of July, but he hasn’t played since September 18 due to lingering soreness.

Jung is supposed to visit a hand specialist in Arizona this week, and presumably they will put together a plan for him to be 100% for 2025. Jung has been dogged by injuries throughout his career, playing only 78 games in 2021, then missing almost all of 2022 due to a shoulder injury suffered while working out. Jung missed a month with a fractured hand in 2023, and was questionable for Opening Day this year due to a leg injury that cost him most of spring training.

Jeff Wilson writes that the Texas Rangers left the home fans with something to smile about with their biggest come from behind win of the season in the home finale on Sunday.

Shawn McFarland writes that the Rangers joined a long list of teams that haven’t been able to follow up a World Series win with success in the next season.

Matt Fisher writes that the final home series ended with a fun win but also with the Rangers eliminated from playoff consideration.

Evan Grant notes that Josh Jung is the latest Ranger to leave 2024 behind early with a season-ending injury after an injury-filled year.
