Steve Cooper knows one Leicester City player he must now drop after disappointing display vs Everton

Steve Cooper has been left with a lot to think about after seeing his Leicester City side disappointingly draw at home to Everton.

What was perhaps even more frustrating for Leicester City is the fact the performance was a poor one against opposition who were yet to take a Premier League point going into the game.

Everton took an early lead as Iliman Ndiaye fired past Mads Hermansen having worked himself some space and Steve Cooper watched on as his side struggled to create against a stubborn Everton defence in awful conditions.

Eventually Leicester did find a breakthrough, as Stephy Mavididi scored his second goal in as many games following a Harry Winks corner to justify his recent return to the side.

However, his fellow winger Jordan Ayew struggled to make an impact and could now find his place under threat.

Jordan Ayew will be lucky to keep Leicester City place

Leicester signed Ayew from Crystal Palace in the summer for an initial £5 million and it was a signing that was difficult for Foxes fans to get excited by.

The 33-year-old attacker has not scored more than four goals in a Premier League season for four years but he was signed for his experience and versatility.

Cooper clearly appreciates what the hard-working Ghanaian brings to the side, though, as Ayew has started each of Leicester’s last three league matches.

Ayew had an afternoon to forget against Everton as he struggled to make an impact and was surprisingly allowed the complete the 90 minutes by Cooper.

According to Sofascore, Ayew completed just 14 passes out of 18, made no key passes, missed his target with all four of his crosses and lost possession 12 times.

Leicester face Walsall in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday night before travelling to face Arsenal on Saturday.

This will be an incredibly difficult game in which Cooper’s side will have to soak up a lot of pressure and Abdul Fatawu should replace Ayew in the side.

Fatawu is a willing worker but offers lightning pace which would allow Leicester to maintain a threat on the counter-attack which could be crucial against the Gunners.

Ayew will no doubt have a big part to play this season, but his display against Everton suggests he should come out of the side until he earns a recall.
