Why Unai Emery collared Jack Grealish as Aston Villa handed big boost for Brentford - John Townley - Birmingham Live

Emi Buendia, who missed the whole of last season with his own ACL injury, is yet to make a league appearance this term, but played in pre-season and also captained Villa in their 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the EFL Trophy earlier this month.

Asked about Mings and Kamara’s return to full training, Emery said: “Very good news, very good news. They are starting to train with us Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara as well.

“Emi Buendia is of course getting more time and he is close to start playing again in official matches with us. Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara I think in a few weeks will be available to be in the squad and start playing as well.”

Villa signed Clement Lenglet on loan to cover Mings’ unavailability last season, but opted not to recruit another left-sided defender over the summer knowing Mings would be able to make a return not longer after the September international break.

Emery was however keen to add another holding midfielder to his squad after Kamara’s injury exposed a lack of options in that department. Amadou Onana was signed for £50m following Douglas Luiz’s move to Juventus for £42m.

Speaking at a Betano event at Bodymoor Heath earlier this week, Emery said: “Last year we had injured players like Tyrone Mings, Kamara, Jacob Ramsey, Buendia. For us today, now, they are new players for us.

“But the most important thing is to be confident and play being focused for 38 matches in the Premier League because through it, we can get our first target.”
