Plymouth Argyle: Steven Schumacher factor could tip the balance v Stoke City

Stoke City stance on Wolves man outlined ahead of January

Re-signing Luke Cundle from Wolves in January is not on Stoke City’s ‘agenda’ right now, as detailed in a report by StokeOnTrentLive.

Stoke City have been linked with a move back in for the midfielder this winter, as per journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. He spent the second-half of last season on loan with the Championship side.

However, they are now well stocked-up with options in his position such as Wouter Burger, Andrew Moran, Sol Sidibe, Bosun Lawal, Tatsuki Seko, Jordan Thompson and Ben Pearson.

Therefore, StokeOnTrentLive have poured cold water on the Potters’ chances of moving back in for the player in the next transfer window for now. They claim Steven Schumacher is keen to develop the players he already has in that department.

Stoke City are back in action after the international break with an away trip to the Kassam Stadium to take on newly promoted Oxford United.

Stoke City stance

Cundle went on to play 16 games for Stoke City in all competitions last term and scored a couple of goals from midfield.

He returned to Wolves for pre-season and his situation with the Premier League outfit is now in limbo.

The Warrington-born man stayed put at Molineux beyond the deadline last month and now faces a battle to get into their starting XI under Gary O’Neil in the top flight.

His contract expires in 2026 but his long-term future is up in the air due to competition for places in his position.

Cundle played for Warrington Town and Burnley before joining Wolves as a teenager in 2014.

He has since risen up through the academy ranks of the Midlands side and has been a regular for them at various different youth levels.

Cundle has made seven first-team appearances so far for his current club.

As well as his spell with the Potters, he has also had temporary stints away at Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle in the past to boost his development and get some experience under his belt.

What next for Stoke City?

Cundle remains an option for Stoke City and is someone who Schumacher knows well. However, for now it appears they aren’t looking to bring him back anytime soon and are happy with what they have already got.

The Potters won 1-0 away at Plymouth Argyle last time out so will be in confident mood at the moment.

They will hope that they can win against at Oxford United in their next game before they take on Hull City under the lights next Friday.

Stoke City are sat in 11th place after the first four outings and are a point outside the play-offs.
