Leeds United close in on Isaac Schmidt agreement he’s due to play on Thursday night.

Leeds United are closing in on an agreement to sign St Gallen fullback Isaac Schmidt ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist reported via X on Thursday (29 August) that Daniel Farke’s side are in talks for a last-minute deal for the 24-year-old defender ahead of the Friday 30 August transfer deadline at Elland Road.

Schmidt is set to play for St Gallen in their Europa Conference League playoff clash with Trabzonspor tonight as they look to book their places in the competition’s group stages having drawn the first leg 0-0 at home.

Will Isaac Schmidt exit St Gallen amid Leeds United transfer rumours?
While nothing is official until the player is pictured in a Leeds United kit, it seems as though the Whites are in an excellent position to secure yet another new addition before the transfer window slams shut on Friday night.

Farke needs reinforcements desperately to help Leeds kick on in their bid to win promotion back to the Premier League. While the Whites’ start to the season hasn’t been terrible, they’ve lacked that bit of quality to really get up and running.

While the signing of Jayden Bogle has bolstered Leeds’ options in the wide areas of defence, behind him and Junior Firpo, there isn’t a whole lot of depth and the players that are waiting in the wings have struggled with injuries.

Hopefully, supporters will get a better idea of whether or not this deal is likely to happen if Schmidt is left out of St Gallen’s squad for their Europa Conference League clash on Thursday.

If the Swiss defender is nowhere to be seen, it would suggest that his move to Elland Road is all but imminent.
