Leeds United ready to submit ‘lucrative’ late bid to sign Ljubicic as Koln chief speaks out.

Leeds United are set to submit a “lucrative” late bid to sign Dejan Ljubicic from FC Koln, according to Rheinische Post.

The German newspaper reported via their print edition on Monday (26 August, page B3) that “it remains to be seen” whether or not the 26-year-old Austria midfielder will remain in Cologne after he scored twice in Sunday’s 5-0 win over Braunschweig.

Leeds are said to be ready to table a good offer for Ljubicic but Koln’s managing director Christian Keller has refused to be drawn into talking about the subject.

“It is normal that there are rumours at the end of a transfer phase,” said Keller.

Leeds United have just days left to finalise new signings
It’s been a busy summer transfer window – again – at Elland Road.

However, this summer has been plagued by high-profile exits and the club’s management failing to reinvest the heaps of cash gained back into the squad.

Leeds have sold Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter for well over £100million but the Yorkshire giants haven’t really gone out on a splurge to replace them.

One win in four games to start the season sort of sums up how poor the summer has been with Daniel Farke having to rely on a youngster in Mateo Joseph to spearhead his attack.

Sure, Joseph was in good form against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night but they are one of the weaker teams in the division. He’s already shown against stronger sides like West Brom he’s not going to be too effective.

The Whites need a striker and, preferably, a new number 10 before the transfer window shuts. Ljubicic is neither.
