Norwich City opted to pull out of a deal for Bertug Yildirim after a knee issue emerged in his medical, reporter Nick Mashiter has said.
Norwich City are in the market for more new signings over the final two weeks of the transfer window as manager Johannes Hoff Thorup looks to make a mark on his squad at Carrow Road.
The frontline is an area that the Canaries will be out to address as soon as possible. They’re down to just two senior strikers after the decision was made to sell Adam Idah to Celtic in a deal worth a reported £9.5m.

It means only Josh Sargent and Ashley Barnes are natural options up top. However, a signing had been swiftly lined up with Stade Rennais’ Bertug Yildirim seemingly on his way in.
However, on Thursday night, reporter Nick Mashiter revealed the deal for him to join Norwich City was off, and shortly after, he shared why.
The Turkish international was undergoing his medical when a knee problem emerged. While it didn’t necessarily mean he failed his medical, it was seen as a risk to bring in a player with a potential concern going forward while committing to a big fee and long-term contract.
Focus turns elsewhere
Norwich City will be disappointed to have got so far along in the Yildirim deal only for a potential knee issue to emerge and derail the move at the final stages.

Nevertheless, they’ll be grateful to have spotted it. Moving for a player who might not be long from the treatment table wouldn’t have gone down well, and it would have let Thorup just as short on strikers as he is now.

It means the Canaries must now look elsewhere in their hunt for a new striker. The recruitment will likely have other options in mind, so it will be hoped a new deal can be struck sooner rather than later.
Until then, it’s just Sargent and Barnes as the options up top for the new manager.
An improved performance wanted
After losing 2-0 to newly promoted Oxford United on the opening day, Norwich City will be determined to give a better showing of themselves at Carrow Road this weekend.
The midweek cup win over Stevenage was a close one though, conceding three goals. Up against a Blackburn Rovers side with 10 goals in their first two games, the Canaries will be punished if they’re not tight at the back.
The home faithful will be out in numbers to welcome Championship football back to Carrow Road and they’ll be demanding an improved display.
It’s sure to be a tricky game though, even though Rovers are set to be without Ipswich Town-bound Sammie Szmodics.
