Washington Commanders Roster Moves: An offensive lineman released; new QB signed due to injuries.
Making moves before Miami.
The Washington Commanders are traveling to Miami today, but they continue to make moves as injuries pop up and players show they’re not ready to make an NFL roster.
Mason Brooks was a popular UDFA signing last year after a few good reps against DT Phidarian Mathis in training camp. He was re-signed this year and got some renewed hype after he was given reps at offensive tackle, the position he played in college at Ole Miss. Brooks played the most OL snaps (34) against the Jets last week and also allowed the most pressures (5). Washington has several players competing at tackle and guard in camp, and Brooks didn’t make the cut.
The Washington Commanders had several players get injured in Saturday’s game. Jordan Magee, a 5th round linebacker, suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him sidelined. Also, UDFA QB Sam Hartman suffered a shoulder injury and hasn’t practiced this week. He isn’t expected to be able to play against the Dolphins this weekend, so the team is reportedly working to sign QB Trace McSorley to have another arm available both for
tomorrow’s joint practice and the game in Miami. McSorley is familiar with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury from their time together with the Arizona Cardinals. He was signed to the Cardinal’s practice squad in 2021. He got one start the following year after injuries to Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy. McSorley will be familiar with Kingsbury’s coaching and will be familiar with parts of his new scheme.
