Kevin Thelwell is making great progress to sign £25m ‘rocket’ who is desperate to join Everton.

Everton have struggled to tempt players to their cause in recent years, due to their gross underperformance and constant relegation threats.

Unsurprisingly, there were few who were desperate to board this sinking ship out of fear of where it might end up. That was, until Sean Dyche emerged.

As one of the Toffees’ truly brilliant managerial appointments, it is a wonder why he was not brought in sooner, as the only man who has actually steadied things at Goodison Park and put a staunch, unrelenting style into play that gives them a chance wherever they go.

And so, with this renewed confidence, at last players are actually once again intrigued by a move there, especially with the new stadium just around the corner.

One transfer target in particular just keeps cropping up, effectively highlighting his desperation to make the move to Everton.

Everton close in on Wilfried Gnonto transfer
With news suggesting that Everton are close to signing Jesper Lindstrom, already Dyche’s attack is promised to be bolstered further this summer.

However, he will be far from done once he has snagged the Danish attacker, clearly given what TEAMtalk are reporting, and following the money gained from Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa.

They suggest that, alongside the Napoli forward, the Toffees also remain interested in Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds United.

And not only that, but the Italy international is still super keen to make the switch, as the report reads: ‘TEAMtalk has been informed that talks with Leeds United are progressing well for the signing of Wilfried Gnonto, who the Toffees missed out on last summer.

‘The Italian international is keen to complete the switch to Goodison Park. Everton would like to sign him for £20m, while Leeds are holding out for £25m. We understand that a deal could be struck in the very near future that sees Everton put down £20m up front, with the potential fee to rise to £25m with performance-related add-ons.’

Refreshing to see players desperate to join Everton
One particular line within this piece will stand out to Evertonians, and likely be music to their ears.

After all, it is a notion that has been emphasised before, with Wilfried Gnonto’s desperation to join Everton now abundantly clear.

This could not have been more succinctly exemplified than during last summer’s botched efforts to sign the winger, as he even submitted a transfer request at Elland Road, such was his desire to trade Yorkshire for Merseyside.

In the end, he would stay for one additional season in the Championship, but the Whites’ failure to gain promotion has proven fatal.

A player of this calibre should be in the Premier League, especially after his fine debut campaign during the 2022/23 season, which led Danny Mills to brand him a ‘pocket rocket’.

Perhaps, after all this effort to force through a move, he could bring such dynamism with him to Everton and revolutionise their attack, with his desperation to play for them only certain to improve his performances too.
