Ryan Reynolds calls out Paul Mullin after revealing ‘unpopular opinion’ on live radio.
Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds was left furious with his club’s star player Paul Mullin after the striker snubbed the actor to choose Rob McElhenney as the best Dragons owner.
Ryan Reynolds has jokingly called out Wrexham’s star player Paul Mullin for not putting enough work into his recovery.
Mullin starred in the Dragons’ promotion from League Two last season, scoring 26 goals and notching eight assists in all competitions. But the striker was forced to undergo minor spinal surgery earlier this summer which will see him miss the start of the upcoming campaign.
Wrexham are hoping he will be able to feature in the majority of the season though. He is currently working towards his recovery, though took time out on Friday morning to prank Reynolds.
The superstar actor was a guest on the Radio One Breakfast Show, which features a section called ‘Unpopular Opinions’ where listeners call in. With Reynolds listening in to the call, Mullin took the chance to make a joke at his club’s owner’s expense.
Mullin called in to the show to praise Reynolds’ co-owner at the Racecourse Ground. He said: “Rob McElhenny is the best Wrexham owner.”
Reynolds immediately caught on though, responding by saying: “Oh, I know that voice, Mullin. Why aren’t you doing calishenics now buddy? Maybe stretch that recently fixed back out a little bit. I don’t know. Maybe make good on an investment in a promise that we made.”
Reynolds’ fellow guest and superstar actor Hugh Jackman then jumped in to say: “I’m a fan Mullin, this is Hugh by the way. I’m an actor and I’m a big fan. I’d love to get your autograph one day.”
Host Greg James then requested that Mullin disclose his true feelings on Reynolds’ ownership. He said: “Paul welcome to the Radio 1 breakfast show, congratualtions on all your success and your unbelievable amount of goals. Can you tell us truthfully what you feel about Ryan and Rob looking after your team?”
Mullin cut the joking and responded: “Both are wonderful as owners and more than that just as people. Get to see them as people more than owners now. As we’ve seen in the documentary, what they’ve done for the community has been phenomenal.
“Our success is obviously down to them. Their success with the club is also down to us which is brilliant and long may it continue.” Mullin has become a star player since his arrival at Wrexham in 2021, but the club announced at the start of the month that he would be spending some time on the sidelines.
” Wrexham AFC can confirm striker Paul Mullin has undergone minor spinal surgery to correct a long-term lower-back/hamstring issue. The Club’s three-time, back-to-back top scorer and Player of the Season has managed the injury through conservative treatment following three years of concern,” they said in a statement.
“However, during off-season training it became evident that this approach would not be able to continue and, following several consultations, it was determined that surgery would be the best way forward.
“Mullin underwent surgery in London in the middle of June to ensure he is fit for the majority of the 2024/25 campaign, as we look ahead to our first season back in League One. There is no timeframe as yet on Mullin’s return, who will work through rehab with the Club’s medical department to ensure he can return to full fitness.”
