Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder looks to won the race for Callum O'Hare

Leicester City and Leeds set to be beaten in race to sign free agent midfielder.

Callum O’Hare is reportedly close to completing a move to recently-relegated Sheffield United, keeping him in the Championship after he left Coventry on a free transfer.

Leicester City won’t be signing Callum O’Hare with the attacking midfielder said to be on his way to Sheffield United.

City were linked to O’Hare a few weeks ago as they seek a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old would have been a cheap option for City, with the midfielder leaving Coventry at the end of his contract last month to become a free agent.

But it seems he will be staying in the Championship. Alan Nixon reports that recently-relegated Sheffield United have jumped into the lead in the race to sign O’Hare and look set to take him to Bramall Lane, despite prominent interest from Leeds.

It’s unsurprising that O’Hare would have so many suitors given his numbers at Championship level. Last season, after returning from a cruciate ligament injury, he scored 10 goals and set up four more in 36 appearances across all competitions.

City have made good progress in the transfer window so far this month, bringing in three signings in Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, and Caleb Okoli. Abdul Fatawu’s arrival is due to be announced soon, while Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new contract too.

But they are still short of an attacking midfielder after Dewsbury-Hall was sold to Chelsea for £30m. City have been linked to a few big-money deals in that area, including for Juventus’s Matias Soule and Celtic’s Matt O’Riley.

Either of those players would be a marquee signing for City and would help them significantly in attacking areas. But Atalanta look to have stolen a march on O’Riley, while Roma are also vying for Soule.
