New York Giants Acquire Two-Time Pro Bowl Linebacker Brian Burns With $150M Deal.
The former Carolina Panthers two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, Brian Burns, will be spearheading his next NFL season with the New York Giants. He had recently signed a five-year, $150 million contract with the squad.
Burns, considering the group he will play with, consisting of linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and two-time Pro Bowl nose tackle Dexter Lawrence, expressed positive thoughts. He also shed light on how he hopes this trio can become the defensive core of the Giants for a long time.
Burns mentioned during the Dexter Lawrence Charity Softball Game, according to the NFL Network, “That is soon to be found out. As of right now we’re just trying to get better every day. With our combined talents, I think the sky’s the limit. We can really do anything. And we’re all young, so hopefully this is years to come.”
Both Burns and Lawrence entered the same 2019 NFL Draft, Burns was selected in the first round as the 16th pick and Lawrence was selected as the 17th pick. They both will be playing for the same squad after six years, as per the NFL network.
Thibodeaux was picked up in the 2022 NFL Draft in the first round as the fifth pick. He received the Morris Trophy in 2020 and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2022. In the last campaign, he led the squad with 11.5 sacks.
Burns also shared positive words regarding Lawrence, mentioning, “He commands a lot. I’m excited for it because I know they really have to key in on him, and also having somebody opposite of me, they’re pretty much going to have to pick their poison on who they’re going to key or slide to. With Dex demanding so much attention and Kayvon also demanding attention, it’s going to free us up a lot.”
Burns with Panthers was impressive and his career total sacks stands at 46. His total tackles are 246, with 8 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 13 pass deflections, and one defensive touchdown.
