The Arizona Diamondbacks prevent a sweep by securing a 9-2 win on a day marked by uncharacteristic errors by the Baltimore Orioles.
Zac Gallen had a strong six innings of pitching, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks secure a 9-2 victory against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. It was their first win at Camden Yards since 2007.
The Orioles had an off day defensively, allowing three unearned runs along with some earned ones that were linked to defensive errors. Jake McCarthy hit a home run for the Diamondbacks, while Adley Rutschman did the same for Baltimore.
Gallen, with a record of 5-2, kept the Orioles hitless until the fifth inning, finishing with two runs allowed on four hits. He struck out four batters and issued two walks.
“Zac pitched really well, as usual,” said Arizona manager Torey Lovullo. “He wanted to keep going into the seventh, but with a 9-2 score, I decided to give our bullpen some work.”
Dean Kremer, with a record of 3-3, gave up three earned runs, four hits, and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out 10 batters. The game was halted for 33 minutes in the seventh inning due to rain.
Kremer had a strong start, not allowing any hits in the first three innings. However, things changed in the fourth when Corbin Carroll hit a leadoff double. Kremer’s pickoff throw accidentally hit Carroll, allowing him to advance to third, and he later scored on a sacrifice fly by Christian Walker.
