Wrexham beat champions Stockport 2-1 to finish runners-up Ahead of the Promotion
PHIL PARKINSON hailed the way his side stepped up to the plate at such a crucial stage of the season after Wrexham beat League Two champions Stockport County 2-1 on the final day.
The Reds trailed at the break against their rivals but Ollie Palmer levelled two minutes into the second half and Andy Cannon scored a late winner.
It was Wrexham’s fifth victory in a row, with the last two of those coming after booking a place in League One.
The pressure was off against Stockport with a top-three finish secured but Parkinson was elated with his players’ efforts in the run-in as they made it back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club’s history.
A group of friends and Wrexham AFC fans are preparing to set off on an epic challenge in aid of a local organisation which provides services for children and young people with disabilities.
Paco, Matt and Ste decided to set themselves a challenge and taken on something a bit different for charity.
They settled on walking from the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to the home of Wrexham AFC.
The ‘Wrexham Ramblers Cardiff to Wrexham Walk’ will see the friends set off from The Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Monday 22 April before starting the long, winding journey of 130 miles to the Stõk Cae Ras.
It will take them five days in total to complete and they will arrive at the stadium on Saturday 27 April – just in time for the newly promoted Wrexham AFC take on League 2 winners Stockport County.
On their arrival they will pose for photographs outside of the stadium before making their way across the road to the Maesgwyn Hall, for some well-earned refreshments.
The group will be walking in aid of local charity Dynamic, on Salisbury Road. The organisation provides a range of services for local children and young people with disabilities
Dynamic will also have a fundraising stall in the grounds of the Maesgwyn and collecting tins for anyone wishing to donate to their incredible challenge.
Marie Gibson, Liaison Officer at Dynamic said: “We are incredibly grateful to Paco, Matt and Ste for taking on this mammoth challenge.
“We know how much time and effort has already been put into their training as well as the planning and organisation of the event and are very grateful.
“We’d also like to thank all the local businesses who have sponsored their challenge: Bank Bar, BD Performance, Castle Mews Windows, Challenger Business Communications, Cynergy Security, John Barclay Dentist, Prestige Payments, S & S Electrical, Smartsearch Recruitment, Superclean Windows, Top Mark and Wrexham Clothing.
