Stjernborg presented – ready for Skellefteå AIK
Talent rejoices when Skellefteå tests new-old chain
Since the season started in early September, Skellefteå AIK has tinkered, shifted, experimented, searched and hunted for something resembling some form of chemistry in the chains.
Now they have returned to one of the basic plans. One of the chains they tried in the preseason, before they started losing a lot of matches. Before they made the decision to fire Robert Ohlsson. When they were still seen as Sweden’s best team.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygård is back in a formation with “Johnsönerna”.
– It’s fun. They’re really talented and it feels like we have chemistry, he says.
How have the training sessions with them felt?
– It has felt great. I am looking forward to the upcoming matches.
On Thursday evening, Skellefteå AIK visits Rögle. Two days later, Malmö awaits. Both teams are behind Skelleftelaget in the table, but it is a tight one. Rögle is one point above the negative qualifying mark, but at the same time only six points behind AIK.
It’s important to keep going and do what we talked about in training.
International matches will be played on February 6–9. This means the SHL will take a short break. The same applies to Brandsegg-Nygård, who will stay in Skellefteå instead of playing with the Norwegian national team.
– We have made the decision that Michael will remain in Skellefteå. He has been through a year that has contained a lot. Therefore, we agreed that he should remain in Sweden and train. It is best for both him and us in the long term, said national captain Tobias Johansson to TV2 .
The 19-year-old himself talks about the conversation with Johansson:
– We had a good dialogue and came to the conclusion that it is best for me to stay home and train considering the year I have had. I haven’t had time to train that much: There have been a lot of matches and a lot of travel.
Does it feel good to have a week like this where you can rest from matches?
– Yes, but at the same time it’s a bit sad not to be able to play at home in Oslo in front of family and friends. But we think this is better for the future.
