Daniel Farke tipped to be SACKED by Leeds after securing promotion back to Premier League
A former Premier League player has urged Leeds United to sack head coach Daniel Farke despite the German leading the West Yorkshire club to promotion from the Championship.
Farke, 48, saw his Leeds side promoted following Sheffield United’s defeat against Burnley, after the Whites defeated Stoke City 6-0 earlier in the day (April 21).
“How the lads have handled the last few weeks during this crunch time period when there’s lots of pressure on them, the way we have performed in the last few weeks, the spirit and quality of the performances and the consistency of the results, especially with the clean sheets, has been second to none,” Farke said after his side’s victory.
Both Leeds and Burnley will compete in the 2025/26 Premier League, with the final promotion spot to be decided via the play-offs – Sheffield United, Sunderland, Bristol City and Coventry are looking likely to battle it out for the remaining place.
And despite Farke’s Leeds lighting up Elland Road with attacking football, having scored 89 goals in 44 games this term, former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has called for him to be sacked.
“I was thinking about it last night and Daniel Farke’s done a great job getting Leeds United up,” said Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.
The Leeds head coach saw his side promoted to the Premier League on Monday (April 21).
“But we’re in a ruthless, ruthless industry… Do Leeds change their manager for the Premier League? Listen, I know it’s ruthless, but Daniel Farke’s record in the Premier League, 49 games, six wins, 35 defeats, conceded 101 goals, scored 31.
“I’m just saying, do Leeds want to stay up this time? Daniel Farke hasn’t done it in the Premier League, he struggled as a manager. I’m just saying, you know how ruthless football can be.
“Look at the players, we will go through the Leeds players and say to all our guests, ‘how many of these players are going to start getting the news within the next week that they’re not needed next year?’”
How much money Swindon Town star Botan Ameen could earn at Norwich City if he signs
Norwich City are eyeing a move for Swindon Town starlet Botan Ameen this summer.
According to The Moonraker, the Canaries are among the clubs keeping tabs on the forward ahead of the upcoming transfer market.
The Norfolk outfit are without a permanent manager, but sporting director Ben Knapper will still be keen to bring exciting young talent into the club as part of their long-term strategy.
And despite his take seeming harsh, the statistics do not bode well for Farke in terms of his managerial record in the top flight and he has just six wins, to go with 35 defeats and eight draws from 49 Premier League games from his time at Norwich City.
The 18-year-old made 14 appearances in League Two last season, scoring once and assisting twice as the team finished 12th in the table.
Here we use estimated figures from Capology to work out what kind of salary the youngster could potentially earn if this deal goes through in the coming weeks and months…
Norwich City’s wage bill
Norwich have the eighth largest wage bill of the clubs competing in the Championship this season.
The Canaries pay a total of £383,500 per week for their first team squad, which finished 13th in the table under Johannes Hoff Thorup.
The Dane was dismissed after an underwhelming campaign, with Jack Wilshere currently in charge of the team on an interim basis.
The highest paid player in the squad is Jack Stacey, with the 29-year-old on a deal worth £35,000 per week.
Norwich City’s top 5 earners – 2024/25 (estimated figures from Capology) | |||
---|---|---|---|
Player | Weekly salary (£) | ||
Jack Stacey | 35,000 | ||
Shane Duffy | 35,000 | ||
Kenny McLean | 25,000 | ||
Emiliano Marcondes | 25,000 | ||
Angus Gunn | 25,000 |
However, someone like Ameen is unlikely to be anywhere close to that kind of salary if he joined Norwich.
The youngster is still at the early stages of his career, and will be far down the pecking order of the first team squad, potentially even with the U21s initially.
It’s players like Ruairi McConville and Gabe Forsyth who are more comparable for Ameen, with the pair both earning £1,500 per week at the moment.
They are both still teenagers as well, and have yet to really break into the first team squad, so Ameen will likely receive a similar salary should he make the switch to Carrow Road.
Norwich City’s interest in Botan Ameen
It’s been reported that a six-figure sum has been offered to Swindon in order to convince them to sell the forward.
It remains to be seen whether that bid will be accepted, but it’s clear that big things are expected from the 18-year-old.
While Norwich may not have a new permanent manager, it’s players like Ameen that could figure as key players in the future of the team down the line, if this deal goes through.
However, the Norfolk outfit are not the only club eyeing a move for the youngster, with sides in the Championship, and even the Premier League, monitoring his situation.
It’s understood that Swindon are hoping to tie the player down to a deal, which would be his first professional contract as a footballer, but terms have not yet been agreed.
This has opened the door for a possible move away, with the player having his future in his hands.
If he agrees to a move, but Norwich and Swindon cannot agree terms on a deal, then an independent tribunal will be required in order to resolve the situation.
