Jose Sa reacts on Instagram after Wolves lose 6-2 to Chelsea at Molineux

Real Madrid legend may have already warned Wolves over £46m target, he’s similar to Matheus Cunha

Wolves fans are preparing for a busy summer transfer window, beginning with the exit of star man Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian international is set to leave Wolves this summer. Manchester United are leading the race for Cunha, and the 25-year-old is open to moving to Old Trafford.

Vitor Pereira must hatch a plan and shortlist targets who could potentially replace the individual brilliance of Cunha.

The former Atletico Madrid sharpshooter has 16 goals in all competitions this term, seeing his influence help drag Wolves to survival.

As exclusively revealed by Molineux News, one name Wolves have targeted is Joao Felix from Chelsea, although there is one major issue that could put them off.

Guti once questioned the mentality of Joao Felix

Felix, who Wolves tried to sign in 2022, was once one of the brightest wonderkids on the planet at Benfica.

The 25-year-old sealed a whopping £113 million move to Atletico Madrid in 2019, and since then, he’s only shown glimpses of his world-class talent.

Now playing for Chelsea after leaving Atletico for £46 million last summer, Felix has failed to produce consistent performances at Stamford Bridge and was sent on loan to AC Milan in January.

His struggles have since continued in Italy, with the Portugal international failing to score in 10 Serie A matches, demonstrating his lack of confidence and flaky mentality.

In an interview at the start of 2024 when Felix was on loan at Barcelona, Real Madrid icon Guti claimed that Felix’s mentality is holding him back from reaching his potential.

“Joao is somewhat to blame (for his situation). He’s a player of ups and downs and his mentality does not help him”, Guti said in an interview with El Chiringuito, via Marca.

“At times he’s angry with the world and thinks it’s to blame for everything that happens to him, and it’s not. That has to change, because he’s a great player.”

Felix and Matheus Cunha share the same problem

Guti pointed out Felix’s poor attitude, and this has been an issue for Cunha this season.

Cunha has been suspended twice for his petulant actions, most recently in the FA Cup defeat against Bournemouth in March, leaving him banned for four games.

Some clubs are also put off by Cunha’s mentality, seeing him as a risk to sign because he can just implode at any second and ruin the harmony in the dressing room.

It’s this mentality that is holding back from being world-class, as his skillset is complete and he can produce moments of brilliance.

This is why Wolves shouldn’t replace the Brazilian with Felix this summer, as they can’t afford to sign someone who has a track record of ill-discipline just like Cunha.
