Crystal Palace transfer news: Marc Guehi joins from Chelsea on five-year deal | Football News | Sky Sports

Chelsea given green light in Marc Guehi pursuit

Crystal Palace are reportedly willing to sell captain Marc Guehi this summer with former club Chelsea interested in securing his services.

According to the Sun, Crystal Palace would be willing to let the 24-year-old leave as part of a major squad overhaul.

Oliver Glasner’s side are said to be hoping to raise around £130 million as part of the rebuild with Chelsea interested in re-signing Guehi.

Tottenham and Newcastle are also keen on the England international whose contract at Palace is set to expire at the end of next season.

Eberechi Eze could also leave Selhurst Park in the summer, with the attacking midfielder having a £60 million release clause in his contract.

‘What I loved’ – Oliver Glasner says Nottingham Forest draw shows Crystal Palace are still focused on Premier League campaign

Marc Guehi discusses how he is happy to be back playing football at Crystal Palace and is eager to get the season underway despite a busy summer.

Oliver Glasner said Crystal Palace’s performance in their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa proves his side have not lost their focus on the Premier League despite reaching the FA Cup Final.

Both teams ventured forward and looked to break the deadlock in the first half, but the clear-cut effort on goal came in the 34th minute when Daniel Munoz volleyed an effort that stung the palms of Matz Sels.

Forest should have taken the lead before half-time on the counter-attack when Anthony Elanga and Chris Wood linked up well, with the former Manchester United attacker being played through one-on-one with Dean Henderson.

However, Henderson stood tall to deny Elanga and kept his clean sheet intact.

Ismaila Sarr had Palace’s first chance of the match, heading just wide after meeting Daniel Munoz’s cross.

The Senegalese international, who scored two in Palace’s 3-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Aston Villa, then should have done better after being played through by Jean-Philippe Mateta, smashing a left-footed effort straight at Sels.

Forest went up the other end straight away, but Wood was unable to turn his shot past Dean Henderson, with Maxence Lacroix making a goal-saving block.

Palace were awarded a penalty after a VAR review in the 57th minute when Tyrick Mitchell snuck ahead of Sels from a Sarr cross and the Forest stopper brought the left-back down.

Eze, who missed his last penalty in the 5-0 defeat at Newcastle, made no mistake this time and gave Glasner’s side the lead.

Forest pulled one back six minutes later when Brazilian centre-back Murillo flicked Neco Williams’ drive back into the box into the back of the net, wrong-footing Henderson.

Eddie Nketiah fired a shot over the bar as Palace looked for a winner and Lacroix headed over after a well-worked free-kick routine.

Eze went agonisingly close to giving Palace all three points, but his curling effort from the edge of the box crashed off Selz’s crossbar and went out for a goalkick.

Palace had the ball in the back of the net in second-half added time after Nketiah turned Eze’s shot into the back of the net, but VAR showed the ex-Arsenal forward was offside.

The Eagles picked up their third straight Premier League draw in their first game since booking their place in the FA Cup Final.

“Disappointed would be the wrong word because I was pleased with the desire to win the game,” said Glasner.

“We missed a couple of chances today – especially at the end. We were unlucky in situations.

“We had some games where we were very efficient and we could win – today we were not efficient enough.

“What I loved is that everybody was asking me if the players were focused on the league or if their minds were already at Wembley for the FA Cup.

“The players showed today and proved that they are 100 per cent at Selhurst and wanted to win the game.

Nottingham Forest European hopes dented as Crystal Palace suffer FA Cup final scare

CRYSTAL PALACE 1-1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST: Eberechi Eze kept his cool to put the hosts in front from the penalty spot but Murillo quickly brought Forest back level as the spoils were shared at Selhurst Park

Sky Sports News' James Cole visits Marc Guehi's primary school to see where it all began for the England centre-back.

Pawn star Eberechi Eze followed his celebrity chess win with a penalty in front of England boss Thomas Tuchel.

But Brazilian Murillo stopped the FA Cup finalists checkmating Forest’s Champion League hopes with a second-half equaliser. And Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now might need to beat Chelsea on a final-day showdown to get back among the kings of Europe.

Eze won $20,000 by triumphing in the recent 12-person chess tournament – and nearly took all three points here when he hit the bar in the 89th minute after his 10th goal of the season. During nine minutes of injury time, Eze found sub Eddie Nketiah in the six-yard box but his effort was disallowed for offside.

But Forest ended a run of two defeats in London in the FA Cup semi-final and at Brentford last week – and face winnable games against Leicester and West Ham before the final day clash with another London club. The Eagles can also break their Premier League points record of 49 points – and the usual vibrant atmosphere at Selhurst Park will have impressed New York Jets owner Woody Johnson who is interested in investing in the club.

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie provides further details behind Newcastle's third bid for the Crystal palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi.

Adam Wharton was subbed off with a foot injury after the break only 12 days before the FA Cup final. An early Wharton delivery caused confusion in the Forest box with centre-backs Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards having efforts blocked.

And in a cagey opening quarter, the biggest threat to the Palace goal came from another home defender. Tyrick Mitchell and Dean Henderson both beat Ola Aina to Ibrahim Sangare’s long ball. But in a communication breakdown, the Eagles left-back tried to head the ball back to his keeper and Henderson had to stretch out his right foot to save an own goal.
