Delight for David Moyes as £17m player returns from injury ahead of Liverpool clash
Everton will be looking to put their FA Cup defeat behind them with the upcoming Merseyside Derby on Wednesday night.
The final ever clash against Liverpool was supposed to take place in December but severe weather pushed the fixture back.
David Moyes’ side now only have Premier League action to worry about after being knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
There was one positive for Everton with Carlos Alcaraz impressing on his debut from the bench.
Liverpool also suffered a shock defeat on the weekend as they now look to get back on track with a win at Goodison Park.
But there has been some good news for Everton with Moyes seeing one of his injured players return to the fold after missing the game on the weekend.
Everton receive Vitaliy Mykolenko injury boost ahead of Liverpool
Vitaliy Mykolenko recently hit back at Everton fans following criticism he received over social media.
However, the Ukraine international has been the regular choice at left-back for the Toffees this season with no other senior option in that position.
After missing the game on the weekend, one club insider has now suggested Mykolenko has returned to training ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside Derby.
The left-back was left out on the weekend as a precaution due to a calf issue which had appeared during the week.
But he did return to training on Monday ahead of the final derby to ever take place at Goodison.
Moyes has tasked Leighton Baines with improving Mykolenko with the 25-year-old yet to provide a goal contribution in the league this season.
If he is fully fit to return, there will be little surprise to see him walk back into the starting XI given he has only missed two league games.
Everton need to sign a new left-back
Moyes wanted to sign a new full-back over the January transfer window with the options on the left extremely thin.
Ashley Young played at left-back over the weekend with the Ukraine international absent.
But he is another player who is looking set to leave over the summer with no sign of the veteran being handed a new contract.
Adrien Truffert was eyed by Everton on deadline day as a potential left-back option and he is a player who could have offered Moyes with something different on the left.
Whether Everton upgrade on Mykolenko or not, they need more options for Moyes to have the ability to rotate his side.
