Lucas Paqueta transfer: Stefan Borson shares Man City reveal
Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a West Ham exit as he looks set to be cleared of the charges in his spot-fixing case.
The 27-year-old was accused of picking up four bookings for the purpose of financial gain after being charged by the FA in May 2024.
Paqueta’s hearing started in March this year and ended in May, with the FA seeking a lifetime ban.
However, The Times reported on 25 July the midfielder is set to be cleared of the charges by an independent regulatory commission as the decision is due to be announced this week.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider before the latest update, finance expert Stefan Borson revealed West Ham might not want to lose Paqueta this summer after Mohammed Kudus joined Tottenham in a £55million deal.
It comes after former London Stadium scout Mick Brown told Football Insider West Ham plan to accept a huge offer for Paqueta as Saudi Pro League clubs are preparing bids.
The Brazil international almost joined Manchester City in a big-money transfer two years ago before his spot-fixing case scuppered the deal.
West Ham set for Lucas Paqueta offers
Borson revealed there could be interest in Paqueta again this summer as he looks set to be cleared of the charges.
He told Football Insider: “If he is cleared, is he a player that teams must have?
“We know he was very close to a very big deal with City two years ago. It was something like £80million.
“If he’s cleared, then maybe teams do have that interest.
“Would he want to go to Saudi Arabia? It’s the classic question again, I don’t know.
“I can see that West Ham might not want to do that deal having lost Kudus.
“It’s not impossible, but it all depends on what happens with the case.”
West Ham and Liverpool race to sign Idrissa Gueye
In terms of a potential incoming at the London Stadium, Football Insider revealed on 26 July West Ham have made an enquiry for Metz sensation Idrissa Gueye.
Liverpool, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Southampton and Ipswich Town have also been in contact about the 18-year-old striker’s availability.
The Senegal international is one of the hottest properties in Europe and is attracting interest from clubs across the top leagues.
Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt have shown an interest in Gueye, who registered five goals in 20 Ligue 2 appearances last season.
