Carl Rushworth is closing on a loan to Coventry City

Coventry City target set for medical as transfer deal ‘agreed’

The latest Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues are closing in on another signing

Coventry City have beaten Rangers to the signing of Carl Rushworth, according to reports.

Sky Sports News claim the Brighton goalkeeper is set to have his medical after the two clubs ‘agreed a season-long loan deal’.

That comes amid intense speculation the 24 year-old was going to move to the Scottish Premiership to challenge Jack Butland for the No. 1 shirt at Ibrox.

Instead he now seems ready to come to the CBS Arena as Oliver Dovin continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

City’s current first choice is Ben Wilson, who himself missed a large chunk of last season with a knee problem, ended the campaign in goal and has been used twice so far in pre-season

Brad Collins, who had a difficult time in goal for City last season, has been in pre-season training but is yet to feature this summer and has one year left on his current contract.

Rushworth, who like most of the Seagulls’ goalkeeping products is excellent with his feet, will arrive at the Sky Blues with the experience of 48 Championship games under his belt.

He moved to Brighton from the Halifax Town youth set-up in 2019 and has since had loan spells with Worthing, Walsall, Lincoln City, Swansea City – where he worked with current Rangers boss Russell Martin – and last season Hull City. He was recalled from the Tigers in January having played only three times.

During his time at Swansea he won awards for Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.
