Celtic make decision about sensational Odsonne Edouard return after confession

Crystal Palace will accept offers for forgotten 27-year-old as Celtic transfer claim made

Crystal Palace have a testing remainder of the summer transfer window ahead

This summer has been a case of certain Premier League clubs looking to scour the market to buy star names, while others aim to avoid losing a host of their key players to bigger clubs.

Brentford are a key example of the latter, as are Crystal Palace. The FA Cup winners just enjoyed arguably the most memorable season in the club’s history but yet have seen half of their starting XI linked with moves away.

So far the club have held onto all their key players, though moves for the likes of Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi or Daniel Munoz may still materialise before the window shuts on September 1. Though Oliver Glasner will hope to avoid selling any of the aforementioned players, there may still be exits sanctioned by the club to raise funds for new arrivals. One forgotten man may be the subject of a Selhurst Park exit this summer.

Odsonne Edouard tipped for Celtic return but there's one problem

According to reports by Football Insider, Odsonne Edouard may be a player to head out of the exit door this summer, as the striker is reportedly no longer part of Glasner’s long-term plans at the club and Palace “will accept offers”.

The 27-year-old has become somewhat of a forgotten man in recent times, spending a disappointing year on loan at Leicester City last year where he featured just four times and made the substitutes’ bench on just three other occasions. The Foxes would be relegated and could not even score a Premier League goal for much of the second half of the season, which makes daunting reading for Edouard if he could not get in such a struggling side.

The former PSG and Celtic striker has just a year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and the club believe that now is the time to sell so that they can extract a transfer fee for a player who is unlikely to feature if he remains at the club.

The report continues to state that a shock return to Celtic for Edouard is believed to be “unlikely”. This comes after manager Brendan Rodgers cooled any speculation over a move for the Scottish champions’ former record signing.

Rodgers said: “Odsonne hasn’t been on my radar, to be fair. I obviously know him but it’s about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.”

It is believed that lucrative moves to the MLS or the Saudi Pro League may be options for the 27-year-old, who needs to rediscover his goalscoring form after a difficult spell with the Eagles.

It is easy to forget that once upon a time, Edouard was above Jean-Philippe Mateta as Palace’s starting No.9 until Mateta scored a last-minute winner off the bench against Leicester in April 2023, in a moment which would prove the turning point in his now memorable Palace career. Edouard was also on the 100-man shortlist for the Golden Boy award and was a prolific goalscorer in Scotland until he was signed by the Eagles in August 2021. It now looks as though his Selhurst Park journey is set to be over and the Frenchman will hope to get his career back on track elsewhere.
