Leicester City should replace Ruud van Nistelrooy with manager Gary Lineker said has ‘got something’
Leicester City are staring down the barrel of a second relegation in the space of three seasons.
There is every chance it could be 11 Premier League defeats from the Foxes’ last 12 games should the Foxes lose to West Ham United on Thursday night.
Even though Leicester could continue an incredible run against West Ham, three points will still leave them two points off safety.
Ruud van Nistelrooy remains committed to Leicester but there are growing signs that suggest he may not be there beyond the season.
Regardless of which league the Foxes find themselves in next season, some fans don’t want Van Nistelrooy at club anymore.
A former player such as Richie Wellens could be a viable replacement, but, there may be someone that has previously been endorsed by Gary Lineker.
Leicester should appoint Lee Carsley as Ruud van Nistelrooy replacement
The Foxes will have to get their next managerial appointment right – if they choose to sack Van Nistelrooy.
Many players are expected to be sold in the summer and with a blend of young talent and a few extra additions, there’s no reason why they can’t compete in the top division.
One man who could be available is England U21 boss Lee Carsley.
After a brief spell in charge of the senior national team, Carsley returned to his role as U21s boss but has shown all the credentials to prove that he could be a great manager at club level.
He is also a contender in Gary Lineker’s eyes who said he wanted Carsley earlier in the season.
Speaking on the Rest is Football in November, he said: “I’d go with Lee Carsley.
“I think he’s really got something, and I think there’s a little bit of a reluctance in the Premier League, opposed to perhaps other leagues, and I think with possible exceptions, Brentford and Brighton, who have brought in young managers that they think have got something about them.
“It’ll be a tough first managerial job in terms of the club side for Carsley, but the way that England players responded to him, you could tell that they respected him as a coach, that they thought he had good ideas.”
Leicester’s academy could benefit from Lee Carsley appointment
Carsley is an expert working with the younger players and developing them into top class talents.
In his time as England U21s boss, the likes of Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and more have all come through the ranks to impress on the senior stage.
Leicester’s academy has some of the best young talents in the country, including Jeremy Monga and Jake Evans
There are also plenty of other Leicester youngsters lighting up the stage and could become first-team contenders in the future.
Should a return to the Championship become a reality, it’s likely that the Foxes will have to rely on this younger talent as opposed to spending the big bucks on new recruits and there’s no better man than Carsley to develop these.
