Notts County: David McGoldrick rejects new Meadow Lane contract - BBC Sport

Derby County favourite turns down contract as statement made

The departure of the former Rams striker has been confirmed

It has been confirmed that former Pride Park fan favourite David McGoldrick has moved on from Notts County.

The news was announced in a statement as the Magpies confirmed the 37-year-old would be moving on, after rejecting a new contract proposal.

Notts had presented a new contract offer to McGoldrick, but the two parties were unable to reach an agreement.

The message from Notts’ board of directors read: “While we’re of course disappointed to be losing a player of David’s quality and character, he leaves having given us many fantastic memories over the last two years.

“Unfortunately we have been unable to reach an agreement on this occasion, but everyone at Meadow Lane thanks David wholeheartedly for his charismatic performances, wonderful goals, leadership and dedication.

“It was special to see him realise his dream of returning to Meadow Lane and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his brilliant career.”

McGoldrick was a fan favourite during his time with the Rams where he bagged a 25-goal haul at Pride Park in the 2022/23 season.

Like a breath of fresh air, Harrison Armstrong helped secure Derby’s place for another season in the Championship — after he made 15 appearances and scored one goal during his time on loan at Pride Park.

Everton manager David Moyes praised the 18-year-old and admitted Armstrong had ‘come back a different player’ upon the midfielder’s return to his home club.

Armstrong’s solid performances for the Rams have given Everton food for thought as they look at ways to develop the under-18 England international. The teenage footballer is considered to be one of the most promising up and comers in the Merseyside club’s youth ranks.

The promising footballer penned a new Everton contract in February — which runs until 2028 — and looks set to have a very bright future ahead with the Blues. Derby picked up a crucial 21 points in the matches Armstrong started, highlighting his importance to the team and it has been widely reported that the Rams would love to have him back for the 2025/2026 season.

But according to TEAMtalk, Armstrong and Everton both have other plans for his development. The midfielder reportedly intends to stay with Everton next term and fight for a place in the first team which has been welcomed by those at the club. The Scottish manager and other Everton staff are said to be huge admirers of Armstrong and believe he is a talent with top-class potential.
