Oxford resigned to losing Cameron Brannagan as Leicester City and two Championship rivals fight for his signature
EFL Analysis can reveal that Leicester City are one of the clubs fighting to sign Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan.
The Oxford star enjoyed a successful campaign with Gary Rowett’s side as they secured Championship survival after 25 years away from the second tier.
Brannagan was a key figure in the midfield, featuring 33 times and scoring three goals.
Now 29, Brannagan has probably got one last big move left and it seems that there are plenty of clubs who could offer that.
Cameron Brannagan wanted by three Championship clubs
According to EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Brannagan is wanted by Leicester, as well as divisional rivals Sheffield United and Stoke City.
Bailey confirmed that Oxford are “set to lose” one of their leaders, who has captained them on multiple occasions, and that relegated Leicester are one of those in contention to sign him.
Sheffield United and Stoke are also said to be in the race for the 29-year-old and a bidding war could begin as a result.
Leicester are facing a possible points deduction but would still be considered one of the favourites for promotion given the fact that they dominated the second tier in the 2023/24 season.
Leicester’s strong relationship with Oxford could help with Brannagan pursuit
One advantage Leicester may have compared to their rivals in the chase for Brannagan is their previous relationship.
Young defender Ben Nelson spent the season on loan at the Kassam Stadium and was impressive in his time on loan, helping the U’s stay up in the second tier.
Rowett is also a former Leicester player and was popular during his time with the Foxes as a player so could also sell the idea of a move to the East Midlands if Brannagan decides to call time on his Oxford days.
Cardiff City fans will be very excited by Des Buckingham’s League One record, he’s the man to get them promoted
Cardiff City’s search for Aaron Ramsey’s permanent successor is coming to a close after the Bluebirds legend joined Mexican outfit Pumas.
The Bluebirds endured a turbulent end to the 2024/25 season, which condemned the club to relegation from the Championship.
Omer Riza was sacked by Cardiff in April, which led to club legend Aaron Ramsey being placed in temporary charge for the final games of the season, but he could not help stem the tide of relegation to League One.
Cardiff’s search for their next head coach saw former Sunderland boss Michael Beale as the initial leading candidate, and current Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones was shortlisted for the role before he penned new terms at The Addicks.
Amid the latest developments with Ramsey’s footballing future, there is one obvious choice for the Bluebirds to appoint, and it would be an impressive acquisition.
