Gary Caldwell: Exeter City appoint former Celtic and Scotland defender as manager - BBC Sport

Gary Caldwell on loss at Charlton

Gary Caldwell has given his reaction as the Grecians fell to a 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic in South London.

It was an afternoon to forget for City, against a side who were ‘better than us in every department,’ Caldwell said.

“It was a disappointing afternoon and result. We were out-battled by a much better team on the day who have great momentum.”

We have to be better and analyse that, and do something about it next week in training in preparation for a huge game against Northampton.

“We didn’t commit to what we came to here to try and do. We know they are aggressive and play on the front foot and we had way to try and combat that and sat off them first half, restricting to not much, and then we concede from a set piece which can’t happen.

“We then conceded two really poor goals in the second half.”

Exeter City defender Ed James has joined Bath City on loan until the end of the 24/25 season.

Ed heads to Twerton Park to link up with Darren Way’s side in the National League South. Bath currently sit in 18th place in the league and head to Maidenhead United for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.

The loan is Ed’s second of the season after he spent a short spell at Yeovil Town which was cut short due to Ed picking up a hamstring injury. Ed made three appearances for the Glovers and scored in their 3-1 win at home to Braintree.

Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has declared Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, fit to play against Newcastle United on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old attacker found the back of the net in the Red’s FA Cup victory over Exeter, but things went south for the former Union Berlin forward after the opposition’s goalkeeper knocked him out.

Awoniyi suffered a concussion and a broken nose, missing Forest’s clash against Fulham last week, but he’s set to return to action this weekend.

“He [Awoniyi] is clear on his concussion protocols so he is available. He will have to wear a mask, but he is okay. The mask is always something that bothers (players) but he is trying to get used to it. Neco [Williams] is using one also, but I think he will be okay,” the former Tottenham Hotspur coach said in quotes revealed by Nottingham Post.
