Manchester United planning to re-sign Anthony Elanga after his heroics for Nottingham Forest this season

The 0-1 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers summed up Manchester United’s season in a nutshell as the hosts had three times more shots than the team from West Midlands yet succumbed to a 15th Premier League defeat.

Rasmus Hojlund’s dire form in front of goal continued while Alejandro Garnacho once again failed to inspire. Add to this Amad still being sidelined and it it clear to see that Ruben Amorim needs proven goalscorers in the summer.

And that includes not only a striker but also a player with an eye for a killer pass. And as per CaughtOffside, the Old Trafford side might have just the player on their radar.

United have been no strangers to re-signing a former player as seen from past deals for Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and most recently, Jonny Evans.

Elanga to be re-signed?

And Anthony Elanga, who scored a wonder goal for Nottingham Forest against his former outfit a couple of weeks ago, is being monitored.

The Swede has six goals and nine assists for Forest this season with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men currently only two points away from third place with a game in hand.

Apart from United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring his situation and Champions League qualification could prove key if Forest are to hold on to their man.

The report suggests a bid of €50 million could force Forest to sell but the club from Nottingham are also planning to extend the 22-year-old’s deal by another two years.

“According to Caught Offside sources, Man United are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

“Major Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Man United are monitoring Elanga’s situation.

“Although Nottingham Forest have not actively placed Elanga on the market, sources suggest that a serious offer, believed to be in excess of €50 million, could force the club to consider their options.

“At the same time, Forest are believed to be exploring the possibility of extending Elanga’s contract until 2030, although formal negotiations are yet to begin.”

The Red Devils also have other Premier League-proven wide players on their radar like Antoine Semenyo and Ademola Lookman. It will be interesting to see if the club do recruit someone of their ilk or opt for a creative midfielder instead.

‘Not like us’ – Elanga on home defeat

Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga spoke to BBC Match of the Day after defeat at home to Brentford on Thursday: “We’ve been really solid in defence this year. We lost in the semi-final the other day and we’ve lost today. We need to regroup for Monday.

“We forgot about the game at Wembley and wanted to start strong today. The goals we conceded weren’t like us.

“We have to go game by game. We need to start winning and put ourselves in the best position possible and that starts with Crystal Palace.”
