Dodgers Make Key Decision Regarding Injured Freddie Freeman: Report

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ star first baseman, Freddie Freeman, has had his share of injury news over the past six months, and the recent announcement is not news the Dodger faithful want to hear. First, Freeman had to get surgery on his ankle following his heroic World Series performance, and then, early this season, he missed the Dodgers’ Tokyo Series with rib discomfort that apparently stemmed from the Fall Classic victory. Most recently, he had a slight mishap in the shower, which led him to miss the entire series with the Atlanta Braves, whom the Dodgers swept to stay a perfect 8-0 on the young 2025 MLB season. The Dodgers also announced that it will be for 10 days for now.

Injuries are not a common theme of Freeman’s career, as he usually is a lock to be out there at first base. The 35-year-old Freeman has a career .300 average and is one of the more consistent hitters of all time. The Dodgers mustn’t rush this ankle injury that he has been laboring with since last year, and allow Freddie time to rest. He has played three games this season and has three hits, of which two went for home runs. The “shower mishap” resulted from him slipping in the shower of his guest bathroom while his normal one was being worked on. Kiké Hernández has been getting the innings at first base in the games that Freeman has missed, and it will likely continue to be like that.

When news broke that the Dodgers planned to visit President Trump at the White House to commemorate last year’s World Series win, grumbles quickly spread across L.A.

Who in the front office or clubhouse thought it was smart to celebrate the Dodgers’ incredible 2024 run — powered by talent homegrown and international that looks like the city on its logo — with someone who lost L.A. County to Kamala Harris by nearly 33 points?

Dodgers place Freddie Freeman on injured list with right ankle sprain

Freeman will miss the team’s road trip through Philadelphia and Washington D.C. No corresponding roster move yet announced.

The Dodgers on Thursday placed first baseman Freddie Freeman on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain, which caused him to miss the entire three-game series against the Braves at Dodger Stadium.

Freeman aggravated the ankle, which was surgically repaired in December, by slipping in the shower at his home over the weekend.

The injured list stint was retroactive to Monday, meaning the earliest Freeman could be activated is next Thursday, April 10. That’s an off day for the Dodgers, who return home to host the Cubs next Friday night. Given the timing, it’s unknown whether Freeman made the trip with the Dodgers to Philadelphia or if he stayed in Los Angeles.

Freeman has only played in three games this season, having missed the first two games of the season in Tokyo with left rib discomfort, an aggravation of another injury from last October.

The Dodgers did not announce a corresponding call-up to replace Freeman on the active roster. On Thursday night, both James Outman and Hyeseong Kim are playing for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The other two position players on the 40-man roster — catcher Hunter Feduccia and outfielder Esteury Ruiz, the latter acquired in a trade on Wednesday — are not playing for OKC at the moment.

David Bote, a non-roster invitee on a minor league deal who was one of the team’s final cuts during spring training, is in roster limbo at the moment, as he’s not active in Triple-A. If he’s still around and the Dodgers were to add him, they’d need a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster
