Marti Cifuentes names four key Leicester City players to make his plan flourish
The new Leicester City manager has been discussing his philosophy and ideas for the new Championship campaign and the squad members who can provide what he wants
Leicester City’s high-class selection of wingers will play a significant role in Marti Cifuentes’ attacking gameplan, the new manager has said.
No position is as well-stocked at City as on the flanks, and it’s not just that they have the numbers, but they have the quality too
Cifuentes namechecked Stephy Mavididi, Jeremy Monga, Kasey McAteer and Abdul Fatawu as City’s speedy, direct wingers, with the club also able to call on the likes of Jake Evans, Will Alves, Wanya Marcal and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
The new boss said the talent City have out wide should not be taken for granted and that wingers who excel at beating their full-backs are a big part of his tactics.

“What I know for sure is that my philosophy is very clear,” Cifuentes told BBC Radio Leicester. “What will never change is the idea to try to be the dominant team. Whatever the shape or formation, we’re going to try to attack.
“I like to play with wingers that play with full width and go in a lot of one-v-ones. When I analysed the team, the squad is full of quality players in all areas. Definitely wingers are one of them.
“When you have players like Stephy, like Jeremy, like Kasey, like Abdul, all of them good in one-v-ones, all of them with pace, all of them brave to go into the last third, it’s very exciting to work with those kinds of players.
“That is not easy to have as much quality in the Championship. In my opinion, they are top. Hopefully we’re going to help them to score goals and create more assists for their team-mates. The potential and quality is there.”

Mavididi, McAteer, and Fatawu were all part of the squad that earned promotion two years ago, with Monga enjoying a rapid rise through the academy to join them in the first team.
Promotion is the aim again this season, but this time with a plan in place that can help City remain in the Premier League.
Cifuentes said: “It’s very clear it’s a big football club and we should try to go to the Premier League as soon as possible. At the same time I’m aware it’s not going to be easy.
