Today’s Leicester City news roundup including Gary Lineker warning, injury crisis and more
Leicester City are set for a hectic Thursday, which will see them face off with West Ham United.
After disappointment against Brentford last time out, Leicester City now take on West Ham in a Premier League meeting on Thursday evening.
It’s going to be a tough game for the Foxes, despite the Hammers having previously been in very bad form prior to their win over Arsenal.
Leicester are predicted to lose the tie, which will have dire consequences for the small chance they had of avoiding relegation.
In today’s news, there is an injury crisis unfolding and Gary Lineker has been sharing his thoughts on the club’s woes.
Gary Lineker was proven right about Leicester City
Leicester began 2024/25 with Steve Cooper in the dugout following the exit of Enzo Maresca.
The former Nottingham Forest boss was dismissed after just 12 Premier League fixtures, only two of which he won.
However, Lineker warned against sacking Cooper and now believes it’s proven that he was right to be worried.
He said: “I think even at the same time, we said it was premature and harsh, and so it’s proved to be because Leicester weren’t in the relegation zone when Cooper was in charge.
“Leicester were scoring in nearly every game they played when Cooper was in charge — had similar problems defensively at times, but it’s been a struggle ever since.”
West Ham injury crisis ahead of Leicester City
While Leicester are underdogs going into their meeting at the London Stadium, they have been handed some hope of causing an upset.
West Ham have injury problems ahead of Leicester with a number of key players expected to be unavailable for the Hammers.
Lucas Paqueta, Vladimir Coufal, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, and Michail Antonio will all miss the tie.
Leicester City loanee Will Alves injured
Will Alves left the Foxes during the 2025 January transfer window, dropping down to the Championship.
Cardiff City fans have praised Alves since his move, especially after his superb assist against Plymouth Argyle over the weekend.
However, the Leicester loanee is now injured, as confirmed by the Welsh outfit’s manager.
He said: “Will Alves took a whack on his knee against Plymouth and it swelled up. We’re managing that and hopefully that’s not too serious.”
