Former Swansea City forward Jamie Paterson is currently training with his home-town club Coventry CityFrank Lampard has dropped another hint about the possibility of Coventry City signing ‘first class’ free agent Jamie Paterson on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old forward has been training with his home town club for a month after leaving MLS side Charlotte FC of North Carolina in the USA in December, and made a big impression on the head coach and his squad, both with his ability on the training pitch and his character in the dressing room.

Although the mid-term transfer window closed on Monday, the Sky Blues can still sign non-contracted players up until the third week in March.

Asked by CoventryLive if he’s tempted to sign Coventry-born Paterson, Lampard said with a smile: “We’ll see, we’ll see. I have got to say that Jamie has been first class in terms of his training, being around the place and his love for Coventry, so they’re all pluses, so we’ll see.”Former Swansea City forward Jamie Paterson is currently training with his home-town club Coventry City

Put to him that it feels like a ‘no-brainer’ in terms of his versatility to be able to play several positions, from wide left and right, attacking midfield or as a second striker, the 46-year-old chuckled: “You sound like his agent,” before adding, “listen, I don’t know, we have to look at everything in a big scheme of things in terms of what we want and what we need in certain areas.

“We don’t want players here that are not going to contribute; they have to be here for a reason. A lot of squads in this league will probably be bigger than ours but we want to get comfortable where we have enough options. So we’ll see with Jamie, whether that works for both sides, I guess.”

Another big benefit of Paterson joining the club is the fact that he played with Joel Latibeadiere, Jake Bidwell and Matt Grimes at Swansea all of whom have spoken highly of the forward.Former Swansea City forward Jamie Paterson is currently training with his home-town club Coventry City
