Lakers Star LeBron James Breaks Silence on NBA Future
LeBron James has a player option to return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season. The leading scorer in NBA history turns 41 in December and is currently recovering from a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee.
The Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. James averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks in the series. He suffered his knee injury in Game 5 after Donte DiVincenzo crashed into him.
On the latest “Mind the Game” episode with Steve Nash, James spoke about his NBA future. The future Hall of Famer said he hasn’t spoken to his family about his plans for next season.
“I haven’t had the conversation with the family yet as far as me going forward or whatever the case may be,” James said. “But we’ll see what happens.”
James appeared in 70 games for the Lakers during the 2024-25 regular season. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks.
A four-time champion, James joined the Lakers in the summer of 2018 after playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014-15 to 2017-18. Los Angeles missed the postseason in 2019, won the championship in 2020, lost in the first round of the 2021 postseason, missed the postseason in 2022, lost in the conference finals in 2023 and lost in the first round of the 2024 and 2025 playoffs.
James has played for the Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He has career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks.
It will be interesting to see if James plays in the NBA next season. He’s the oldest active player in the league.
LeBron James Makes Opinion of Timberwolves Extremely Clear After Lakers’ Loss
The Los Angeles Lakers’ aspirations for a deep playoff run were cut short as they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 4-1 series defeat during the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. Despite boasting two of the best players in Luka Doncic and LeBron James, the Lakers couldn’t overcome the Timberwolves’ dynamic play, as they were dealt the final blow in a 103-96 loss in Game 5 at Crypto.com Arena.
James, 40, delivered a mixed performance throughout the series. He averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists over five games. Although he shined the brightest in Game 3’s loss, where he scored 38 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, he had questionable performances, particularly in Game 1 and 5, where he struggled to score in the fourth quarter.
