The genius Liverpool and Crystal Palace swap transfer deal that could turbocharge both sides
Liverpool’s decision to appoint Arne Slot last year has worked out well for them. The Dutchman was picked as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp and has won the Premier League title in his first season. Prior to his switch to Anfield, he caught the eye in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.
As for Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner has done an impressive job at Selhurst Park over recent times. The Austrian head coach has worked at Eintracht Frankfurt in the past. His side have reached the FA Cup final and will face Manchester City after beating Aston Villa in the semi-finals.
Liverpool eye ambitious Adam Wharton swoop
Liverpool are interested in a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Reds are keen on luring the once-capped England international to Merseyside ahead of the next campaign. They will need to fork out big money to try and get him though.
Wharton, 21, could be seen by Slot as someone to boost his midfield ranks. If he joined, he would provide more competition and depth in the middle of the park. He is still young and has bags of potential to get even better down the line.
The youngster was snapped up by Crystal Palace back in January 2024 on a long-term deal and he has since adapted well to life in the top flight. He has become one of the Eagles’ most prized assets and they will be desperate to keep hold of him. The prospect has made 40 appearances for them in all competitions to date and has a bright future ahead of him.
Wharton rose up through the academy ranks at Blackburn Rovers and was a regular at various different youth levels. He broke into their first-team as a teenager and went on to play 51 games altogether, chipping in with four goals. The Blackburn-born man was then sold last year and hasn’t looked back since.
Liverpool could use Harvey Elliott in swap deal with Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace are likely to be stubborn in the event of an incoming bid for Wharton. Therefore, Liverpool may need to be smart in an attempt to persuade the Eagles into cashing in. They could use Harvey Elliott as part of a swap deal plus cash for their target.
Elliott, 22, needs to be getting regular game time at this stage of his career. Mohamed Salah’s new deal would have been music to the ears of everyone associated with the Reds. However, for Elliott, that was probably bad news for him secretly as he means he won’t be able to nail down a starting place for another two years if he stays.
Therefore, an exit later this year would be a good move for him. He needs to go somewhere he can play every single game and get some consistency. There is no doubt that he is a player with a lot of quality and he just needs a platform to show what he can do.
The former QPR and Fulham man joined Liverpool back in 2019 and he has since played 143 matches altogether, finding the net on 14 occasions. He was also loaned out to Blackburn back in 2020 to get some experience. It remains to be seen at this stage what his current club plan to do with him.
If they do make him available, he would be ideal for Crystal Palace. He would give them something different going forward and would add more quality to their squad. If they were to lose Wharton, getting someone in return like Elliott would massively soften the blow.
