Frank Lampard could be thwarted by Everton starlet who was ‘buzzing’ to train with him

Isaac Price has opened up on his early days at Everton under Carlo Ancelotti and Frank Lampard

Recent times have been turbulent for Everton. But former midfielder Isaac Price believes the club gave him the best possible environment upon which to build his career.

Price was highly thought of when he was at the Blues and made his debut on the final day of the 2021-22 season at Arsenal. Everton had secured their Premier League status in dramatic fashion a few days earlier against Crystal Palace.

However, he would only make one more top-flight appearance before joining Standard Liege in the following summer. Now he is at West Bromwich Albion and has started nine times in the Championship after a January move, as the Baggies seek to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

West Brom are currently in seventh spot in the table, just three points outside the playoff places. The team in sixth are Coventry City, who are managed by former Everton boss Frank Lampard; it was he who handed Price his debut for the Blues.

Speaking about his career so far, Price reflected fondly on his early days at Everton, even though he was unable to break into the first team on a regular basis.

“I’ve been pretty lucky to be fair, my first boss at Everton was Carlo Ancelotti,” he told SportsBoom.

“After that I had Frank Lampard, he was my manager for a year and a half, that was a great learning experience for me. He’s obviously one of the best midfielders to play the game, so to learn off him was great.

“And the club had some really top players. I trained with the likes of James Rodriquez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, some of the top players in the world. To train with those quality of players every day was massive for me, I learnt a lot from them.”

Despite the gravitas and greatness of Ancelotti as a coach, as an attacking midfielder it was perhaps no surprise that Price singled out Lampard as a big influence.
