Hull City and Norwich City face Jose Mourinho competition in pursuit of attacker target

Hull City and Norwich City face competition from Fenerbahce in pursuit of Deportivo Tachira attacker Luis Fernando Carrero, according to journalist Rudy Galetti on X.

Hull City and Norwich City are both reportedly interested in luring the player to England this summer. HCAFC and NCFC will need to see off competition from elsewhere though if they are to land him.

Carrero, 18, is a left footed winger who can also play down the middle in an attacking midfield role as well if needed. He is being tipped for a bright future in the game and his current club could face a battle to keep hold of him down the line.

TEAMtalk claimed last month that the Tigers and the Canaries wanted him along with some unnamed Premier League, LaLiga and Portuese Liga sides. In this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Galetti on X has suggested that Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have now joined the chase for his signature and are ‘considering’ a move.

Hull City are in a relegation battle in the Championship and find themselves in 20th position in the table, three points above the drop zone. Meanwhile, Norwich City are mid-table in 13th place with only four fixtures left.

Hull City’s owner Acun Ilicali is on the board of Fenerbahce. HCAFC have used their links with the Turkish giants over recent years to sign players.

The Tigers and Norwich City may have identified Carrero as a potential addition for later this year. He could be seen as someone to boost their respective attacking ranks.

He is under contract with Deportivo Tachira until December 2026 meaning they are under no pressure to sell him just yet and they can wait for the right offer to come in for his signature if they are to consider letting him go.

The Venezuela youth international has been on their books for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks. Carrero has been a regular for them at various different youth levels.

Will Hull City or Norwich City move for Luis Fernando Carrero?

Time will tell whether Hull City or Norwich City make an official move for Carrero in the next window. Fenerbahce’s interest may now throw a spanner in the works.

It is hard for the Tigers in particular to plan their recruitment as they don’t know what league they will be in next term. Ruben Selles’ side are back in action on Friday with an away trip to Swansea City before a home clash against Preston North End on Monday.

As for Norwich City, they don’t have too much to play for now. They take on Portsmouth at Carrow Road up next before they lock horns with Millwall at The Den.

Norwich City: Jacob Wright on Kenny McLean mentorship

Wright joined the Canaries on loan from Manchester City in that late stages of transfer deadline day, and has quickly settled into life in Norfolk to become a fan favourite.

He’s impressed Johannes Hoff Thorup enough for his head coach to declare an interest in signing him permanently, and the 19-year-old says that McLean’s been a part of that.

Norwich City: No Sargent or Sainz on EFL awards shortlist

Championship top scorer Sainz, and close goal rival Sargent, were not on the three-player shortlist revealed on Wednesday.

Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer, Leeds wide player Dan James and Burnley’s excellent keeper, James Trafford, were nominated by the judging panel.

Sainz has 21 goal contributions in 37 league appearances, but was banned for six games around the turn of the year following an FA charge relating to a spitting incident in the club’s 2-1 league defeat at Sunderland.

The prolific Sargent is currently three goals behind his team mate in the race for the divisional golden boot, but the US forward’s 14-goal haul has come in 28 Championship appearances either side of a 14-game lay-off following groin surgery.

Sargent’s goals also fired City to the play-offs last season, and the 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best number nines outside the Premier League.

Both still could be included in the Championship team-of-the-year, which will be announced on the evening of the event held in London on April 27, and broadcast live on Sky Sports.

City have been well represented in the individual categories in recent years with Teemu Pukki, Max Aarons and Bali Mumba all winners. Jon Rowe was nominated last season for Championship young-player-of-the-season.

Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham, Shea Charles of Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley’s CJ Egan-Riley are the young player nominations this time around.

Norwich City have been shortlisted for EFL community club of the season. Jack Stacey is also up for EFL player in the community, after recently being announced as the Championship player in the community recipient.

Former double title-winning boss, Daniel Farke, is nominated  for the league’s manager-of-the-year alongside Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris, Burnley’s Scott Parker and Sheffield United’s Chris Widler.

Farke has got Leeds in the mix for automatic promotion again, ahead of the final four games, with the Elland Road outfit top on goal difference from Burnley, who beat Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side 2-1 at Turf Moor last time out.
