Eliot Matazo says three points at Cardiff City tonight would cap off a tremendous few days and make Saturday’s win at Sunderland beautiful, though he admits defeat against the Bluebirds would see their efforts in the North East wasted.
Hull City’s January signing delivered a Man of the Match display at the Stadium of Light as City earned a fourth win in their last five away games, and now, the Tigers head to South Wales for their biggest game of the season.
Three points against the Bluebirds would see City move six points clear of the relegation zone with 12 games to go, and a home game against Plymouth Argyle to come in a week’s time.
Backing up good results has been a major problem for the Tigers all season having managed back-to-back wins just once all season, but doing it now would be timely, especially against a rival at the bottom end of the league.
“For sure (Important to back then Sunderland result up), like I said, to make this win beautiful, you have to win the next game. It’s always like this in football. What has been done has been done,” the Belgian told Hull Live.
“We need to focus on the next game to make this win very beautiful, otherwise it is for nothing. I think we worked so hard to get this win, so we need to carry on with this confidence and this boost to get onto Tuesday and win this game.
“Exactly (the win at Sunderland has given City a big opportunity). This win has to give us confidence, boost energy to win the next game, we know the next game is very important, maybe more important than this game, so we need to stay focused. We can enjoy it, but like I said, from tomorrow on, we need to be ready and fully concentrate on the game on Tuesday.”
For City to continue to keep their heads above water, the willingness to fight and battle for everything will be absolutely crucial, and it’s something he says the team showed in abundance on Wearside.
“It was a great effort from the team from the first to the last minute. We fight together from the striker to the goalkeeper, we really fight, and I’m very happy for the team with this win. You have to create the luck because it doesn’t fall from the sky. It was a great effort from the team.”
