Blackburn Rovers stance on John Eustace amid Derby County links

John Eustace keen on Blackburn Rovers transfer as Derby County hunt attacker

Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you the latest as the Rams prepare to bolster their squad this summer

Derby County are keen on a move for Andi Weimann as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.

DerbyshireLive understands John Eustace is keen on the Rams being reunited with the attacker who is available on a free transfer.

Blackburn have offered Weimann a new deal at Ewood Park, but Derby hope he will return to Pride Park for a second spell with the club.

The former Aston Villa attacker scored nine goals in all competitions for Rovers last season including seven in the league.

A move for Weimann makes perfect sense given Derby are looking to bolster the strength in depth of their attack.

Weimann can play as a number 10 which would suit Eustace’s preferred formation of 4-2-3-1.

Derby County: 3 Blackburn Rovers men John Eustace could target

Derby are keen to revamp their attack after scoring 48 goals last season in the league, nearly half of which were from set-pieces.

Jerry Yates was the leading goalscorer with 10 goals with the second top scorer being Ebou Adams with six.

Weimann ironically scored against Derby at the beginning of the season when Rovers overcame Paul Warne’s side 4-2 at Ewood Park when Eustace was in charge.

Should Weimann seal his move to Pride Park, it will be his second spell at the club having joined Derby for an undisclosed fee back in 2015 from Aston Villa.

He made more than 80 league appearances for Derby and scored nine goals before moving on to Wolves on a loan deal before sealing a permanent switch to Bristol City.

Weimann scored 50 league goals in 205 appearances for the Robins before leaving for a loan spell with West Brom.

He eventually moved to Blackburn on a free transfer last summer and scored seven goals in the league and one each in the FA and League Cup.

Dolan sent Celtic transfer message amid Blackburn uncertainty

John Eustace set to inform Blackburn Rovers board of his desire to join Derby County

Sky Sports presenter, David Prutton, believes Tyrhys Dolan must consider a move to Rangers or Celtic after reported interest in the Blackburn Rovers attacker.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Ewood Park and will take his time to decide on his next move this summer. Rovers have made a contract offer and hope to keep him, though there’s an acceptance he may receive a more lucrative deal elsewhere.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands no club has made a formal proposal to Dolan yet, aside from Rovers. The winger is currently away on holiday and a decision won’t be made until next month.

Rovers will be due compensation due to Dolan’s age, though that will be less than market value. If he moved abroad, that figure would be even smaller.

A move to Scotland has been linked and Prutton believes he would have to give a move to either club ‘serious thought’.

“I think he’s a good player, Tyrhys, always lively, always looks like he’s capable of making something happen,” Prutton told Football League World.

Blackburn Rovers: John Eustace praises the departing Lewis Baker - BBC Sport

“The expectation of him when he went to Blackburn was not directly related to what his output then became, because i think they thought he was a bit of a slow burner and one for the future, but he very much got stuck in and was a big part of a squad that was very competitive in the last few championship seasons.

“I think the frustration with them comes with falling away as and when it mattered i.e. very early Spring, which meant that at times, barring the final day just now, at times by the time it came to the last knockings, they were just firmly and constantly in mid table.

“So I think yeah on a free, or compensation given the age of the player potentially, but Christ when one of those two come knocking, you’ve got to give it some serious thought.”
