Once-promising Red Wings forward appears done in NHL
Jakub Vrana joined the Detroit Red Wings at the 2021 trade deadline with tremendous upside as a young sniper and paid immediate dividends with 21 goals in his first 34 games.
It was all downhill after that. Now, at age 29, Vrana appears finished in the NHL.
Vrana is searching for a team in Europe and has drawn interest from Sparta Prague of the Czech Extraliga, according to web site isport.blesk.cz, as well his former Swedish Club, Linkoping, per hockeynews.se.
Vrana appeared in 13 games with Nashville at the end of the season (two goals, one assist) after being claimed off waivers from Washington on March 6. He had parlayed a training camp invitation from the Capitals into in a one-year contract but did not have a successful second stint in Washington (seven goals, four assists in 26 games).
The Red Wings acquired Vrana on April 12, 2021, from the Capitals for Anthony Mantha and a first-round pick, which used that summer to trade up and draft goaltender Sebastian Cossa.
