Josh Koroma & Josh Ruffels: Huddersfield Town duo sign new two-year deals - BBC Sport

Wrexham have already done one brilliant thing this summer, Reynolds and McElhenney will be ready for the step up

Wrexham’s reported transfer interests so far show that they should not be underestimated next season.

Promotion to the Championship was confirmed for Wrexham with games to spare in the 2024/25 League One campaign, and plans for the upcoming season are already underway.

In terms of sentimental value, it could be a difficult summer for Wrexham with Paul Mullin potentially moving on, whilst the retained list showed that a total of eight players will move on, including Steven Fletcher, Jordan Davies and Sam Dalby.

Whilst it could potentially be a challenging campaign for the Dragons next season, with it set to be the biggest jump up in quality between leagues that they have faced, both Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have already started to do one thing that will certainly hold them in good stead next season.

Wrexham’s reported transfer interest shows that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are doing one thing correct

The jump up in quality of the league next season will make it a challenge for several players in the Wrexham side, but recent reported interest shows that both Reynolds and McElhenney are proactively looking to plug that gap.

Not only are they looking towards top quality players, but those with vast Championship experience. Notably, Wrexham have interest in Tom Lawrence, a skilful and technical midfielder that thrived in Frank Lampard’s Derby County side when they reached the play-off final, whilst Fulham’s Tom Cairney is also wanted, someone who has an abundance of experience in the Premier League and Championship.

Hopefully, both Reynolds and McElhenney can follow up this interest by getting signings done early, giving Wrexham the best opportunity next season.

Wrexham will have no room for sentimental feelings ahead of tough Championship season

Since Reynolds and McElhenney took control of the club, several players have written their name into Wrexham folklore, with the treble promotion being an incredible achievement that every player that has stepped out on the grass deserves credit for.

However, this summer must see some tough decisions made regarding the personnel in the squad.

As has been the case with Steven Fletcher and his departure, he will likely not be the only player moved on this season; Mullin for example will leave a huge void in the dressing room, but the attacking ranks will need to be improved to stand a chance at glory next season.

It seems that Reynolds and McElhenney have already started to be brutal with developing the squad, something that they must continue to do so.
