Halfway into the first period, the home team Brynäs broke the deadlock. Linus Ölund scored after a really bouncy sequence.
– I think I get a little touch on it with the backhand. I see it going all the way over. Then it’s just a matter of hoping it goes in, Ölund tells TV4.
Just over two minutes later, both 2–0 and 3–0 had come. This was via Greg Scott and Ölund again.
Caps on the ice
In the second period, Skellefteå came back into the game thanks to two goals in numerical superiority. First it was Oscar Lindberg who pushed, then Anton Heikkinen with a control.
Skellefteå chased an equalizer in the third period, but instead Brynäs was able to make it 4–2 after another goal from Linus Ölund. After the goal, caps were thrown onto the ice in Gävle.
With 56 seconds left, Anton Heikkinen reduced the deficit. But Skellefteå never got closer than that.
4–3 to Brynäs. Brynäs now leads the semifinal series 2–0.
– It’s fantastic. The whole city, everyone around the team, in the office, players and coaches have bonded together. We’re going to build something long-term here, says Ölund.
“The group is magical”
Now the series turns to Skellefteå on Tuesday.
– This group is magical and we never give up. It’s something we will take with us to game three, says Skellefteå coach Andreas Falk to TV4.
