Journalist confirms £30m attacker is on Leeds United’s transfer shortlist this summer, ‘From what I’ve heard…’
Leeds United are on the hunt for a couple more strikers it seems, despite the recent signing of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer.
Leeds United have signed Lukas Nmecha ahead of the new season. The former Middlesbrough and Preston loan flop has split opinion among Whites fans, but it’s a striker addition nonetheless.
Daniel Farke is in dire need of some quality up top, as well as depth with Mateo Joseph’s Leeds United future up in the air, perhaps along with Patrick Bamford’s.
So far this summer, Leeds United have been linked with a number of strikers, and it looks like in the coming weeks we’ll see Farke make a marquee signing in attack, in a bid to give his side some much-needed firepower ahead of the new season.
Among the names linked is Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic. The Montenegrin international is hot property after scoring 11 in 37 Serie A games for Lecce last season and reports have claimed that Leeds United are in the race to sign Krstovic this summer.
The truth behind Leeds United’s transfer interest in Nikola Krstovic
Reports have contrasted on this one: after the initial link, it was then reported that Krstovic wasn’t a name on Leeds United’s radar this summer, though reports have persisted, especially in Italy where Krstovic is expected to leave Lecce this summer.
And speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed to us how Krstovic is indeed a player on Farke’s transfer radar this summer. But the 25-year-old isn’t someone high up on Leeds United’s wishlist right now, as Bailey explained: “He’s obviously been mentioned to Leeds at some point.
“He clearly has. I know for a fact he has, so he’s obviously made it onto the list, from what I’ve heard. He’s just not very high on it. One of many. Leeds aren’t panicking, they’re doing the right things.”
How much Lecce want for Leeds United transfer target Nikola Krstovic
Although he performed well last season, 11 goals isn’t exactly blowing the competition away, and so many might find Lecce’s £30million valuation of Krstovic to be a bit steep, especially considering the fact that he’s never played in England before.
To add to that, reports in Italy have claimed that Krstovic would prefer to move to another Serie A team this season. So whilst he’s definitely someone on Leeds’ radar, it looks like he’s rapidly falling down Farke’s list of striker targets.
Despite the summer transfer window still having two more months to go, Leeds United’s reported list of striker targets dwindles by the week: Tammy Abraham has joined Besiktas on loan from Roma, whilst Semih Kilicsoy looks set to join FC Utrecht.
For Farke, the need for a new striker or two only gets greater as the days go by, and so he may end up having to spend big to sign someone like Krstovic this summer.
