FABRIZIO ROMANO: Hull City land youngster eyed by Derby County and Everton
Hull City have signed defender Cathal McCarthy from UCD, as per reporter Pete O’Rourke on X.
Hull City are signing the youngster and then loaning him back out to the League of Ireland. The Irish Mirror have recently claimed that Derby County and Everton have been interested in the teenager, along with Millwall, Norwich City and Fulham.
McCarthy, 18, is being tipped for a bright future in the game and has emerged on the radar of English teams over recent times.
In this latest update regarding his situation this winter by journalist O’Rourke on X, the Tigers have won the race for his signature ahead of other teams.
Ruben Selles’ side have been busy on the transfer front this month and have brought in seven new faces to bolster their ranks. Matt Crooks, Joe Gelhardt, Nordin Amrabat, Elliot Matazo, Lincoln, Kyle Joseph and Louie Barry have all arrived through the entrance door.

Hull City could see McCarthy as one for the future and someone to bolster their ranks down the line.
They have provided a pathway for young players in the past such as Jarrod Bowen, Keane Lewis-Potter and Jacob Greaves.
The prospect made four appearances for UCD in their last campaign.
They came 2nd in the Irish second tier last term behind Cork City.
The Dublin outfit are now set to lose McCarthy which will be a blow. However, it would be a boost if he returned on a temporary basis to get some more experience under his belt.

Seeing off interest from the likes of Everton, Derby County, Fulham, Millwall and Norwich City is good work by Hull City and shows their academy is attractive.
McCarthy will see the Tigers as the ideal next home for him as he looks to embark on a successful career in the game.
Their ability to sell on players has been evident over recent years. Players like Andy Robertson, Harry Maguire and Jaden Philogene have come and gone over the course of the past decade as well as Bowen, Lewis-Potter and Greaves.
Their recent business of landing highly-rated talents like Gelhardt and Barry also shows their pulling power.
Hull City won 3-0 away at Sheffield United last time out and are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Stoke City as they look to get some momentum.
