Sheffield Wednesday hero Barry Bannan shows his true colours once again, he’s getting prepared for 2025/26

It’s a difficult time to be a Sheffield Wednesday fan.

On the pitch, Danny Rohl has returned to take training. However, fans are split on Rohl coming back to the Owls after he told his players that he would be leaving Hillsborough this summer.

With Sheffield Wednesday under a three-window transfer ban, bringing in new players is going to be tough. However, there is one familiar face still working at the club’s training ground – despite his contract expiring last month.

Barry Bannan continues to train with Sheffield Wednesday

Barry Bannan’s Owls deal came to an end on 30 June. The 35-year-old was expected to sign an extension a couple of months ago, but with the current financial situation this is yet to be done.

Nevertheless, the ex-Crystal Palace man continues to train with the club and he is getting ready for the 2025/26 campaign.

While not an unusual situation, it is clear where Bannan’s loyalties lie, and he will be hoping more than anyone for a conclusion to the saga in S6.

There is no denying that he is in the final years of his career, but the midfielder proved last season that he has more than enough quality to be a threat in the Championship. With Sheffield Wednesday struggling for depth at the moment, he will be a vital player if he is able to sign a new contract.

Danny Rohl will need Barry Bannan

If Rohl continues with the Owls until the season starts, Bannan will be one of his most important players.

Togetherness is how Sheffield Wednesday are going to get through 2025/26 and the experience of the senior players will be crucial.

Since joining in 2015 from Crystal Palace, Bannan has made one thing clear, he wants to play football. He has achieved that goal in the last decade, and the Owls owe it to him to get him back playing as soon as possible.
