West Ham set to recreate Fullkrug nightmare after Callum Wilson transfer news

West Ham have not had the best of luck over the years when it comes to strikers.

Gianluca Scamacca promised to deliver so much at the London Stadium, while Nikola Vlasic never looked like making an impact.

Last summer, the signing of Niclas Fullkrug seemed to be an astute piece of business, but he is just another one to add to the collection of flops.

Now, rather predictably, West Ham are targeting a player who has his own issues in Callum Wilson.

West Ham take huge risk with Callum Wilson transfer

Wilson is reportedly in talks with West Ham over a potential move to the London Stadium.

Wilson dazzled at times during his spell in the North East, but a string of injuries and the small matter of Alexander Isak have dampened his impact.

Last season, the 33-year-old failed to bag a single Premier League goal, although he mostly featured as a substitute.

Dr Brar – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – highlighted Wilson’s two serious injuries last season as a worry.

With that in mind, it seems baffling that the Hammers are seemingly prepared to take such a risk with an injury-prone player, even if it is for free.

Fullkrug missed 19 games through injury last term, and the Irons were not far off paying the ultimate price of relegation.

Of course, the German was not to blame, but the East London club must look at what happened with him before pursuing Wilson.

Hammers blushes can be spared by Saudi Arabia approach

While the Irons appear to be keen on Wilson, there have been reports of interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, there is no guarantee that the forward would welcome such a move, but it does present an intriguing option.

If the former Bournemouth man is driven by money, then a move to Al-Ettifaq could appeal to the 32-year-old.

However, if previous reports are to be believed, then it seems he favours a Premier League stay.

If the Hammers do not want another Fullkrug on their hands, then they should waive their interest in Wilson.
